Honeycomb is honey exactly as the bees made it – sealed inside delicate cells of natural beeswax. It is crunchy, chewy and juicy all at once, and it’s one of the most special ways to enjoy wild honey. If you’ve never tried it, here’s everything you need to know.
What is honeycomb?
Bees build honeycomb from beeswax and fill each six-sided cell with honey, then seal it with a thin wax cap. Our honeycomb is cut straight from the hive, with nothing added and nothing filtered out – so you taste honey in its most natural form.
Can you eat the wax?
Yes. The wax is edible. Most people chew a piece of comb like a soft sweet: the honey flows out, and the wax becomes like chewing gum. You can swallow the small amount of wax or simply discard it once the honey is gone – both are fine.
Easy ways to enjoy honeycomb
- Straight from the jar: cut a small piece and eat it as it is – the classic way.
- On toast or dosa: spread a piece on warm toast, a pancake or a dosa and let it melt slightly.
- With fruit and nuts: add a piece to a bowl of fruit, curd or overnight oats.
- On a platter: serve it with cheese, nuts and dates when guests come over – it always gets attention.
How to store honeycomb
- Keep it in a closed container at room temperature, away from sunlight.
- There’s no need to refrigerate it – cold makes the honey inside set and the wax hard.
- Like all raw honey, the honey in the comb may crystallise over time. That’s natural and it’s still delicious.
